This challenging project involved the conversion of a second story parking deck into 30,000 square feet of office space, the construction of a central lobby with elevators, and extensive renovations to the adjacent facility.
The second floor newsroom, constructed on the existing concrete parking deck, consists of a removable floor system in order to facilitate easy access to a complex system of computer lines as well as provide flexibility for furniture rearrangement. A new indirect lighting system was specifically designed to eliminate glare on the video terminals. Natural lighting was introduced around the perimeter of the newsroom through skylights in order to provide a more pleasant working environment and not interfere with the controlled artificial lighting system above the computer terminals.
