This new middle school was constructed on the same site as the existing building it will replace. The design features a sky-lit concourse that pulls occupants into the heart of the school, providing access to the assembly and public spaces. The plan is organized to frame a centralized courtyard, similar to that of the existing school. The new courtyard features an undulating terrain and a backdrop of Birch trees to create a serene outdoor room within the school.
Breakout spaces are provided to activate the corridors and encourage flexible learning opportunities beyond the walls of the classroom. On the second level, two bridges extend from the corridors and stretch out over the main concourse to form additional learning spaces. The bridges showcase the learning process in action above the main concourse. The high performance, energy and water efficient building has been awarded LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
