The placement of the new school revolved around maintaining an existing elementary school until the completion of the new building. The new school is located at the front of the site to allow play areas to be placed safely behind the building and away from traffic of the main street. The "L" shaped configuration of the building and its bus loop wrap around the existing school, allowing for the creation of a new town green after its removal. Thew newly created town green is strengthened by the position of the library and the consequent entrance sequence to the building. Inside, the library culminates in three small reading rooms with views directly onto the green. Similarly, a glazed stairwell facing onto the entryway opens the classroom corridors to the outdoor space. The simplified form of the school is enriched by the use of varying brick patterns and colors. Fabric-like criss cross patterns wrap the building continuously, interrupted only by large checkerboard patterns which signal the entrance to the building.
