This 800-student school for students in grades 4, 5 & 6 was featured in the Awards issue of American School & University magazine. The project was designed for a municipal park site in Bangor, Pennsylvania. However, a court decision only months before the planned bid date required that the site be preserved for its original use as a veterans memorial. Subsequently, Breslin Architects located a new site with virtually the same topographic features, thus saving the school district significant costs associated with re-design.
the three story structure takes advantage of the sloping topography so that the entry is on the middle level. The building is organized with the Public Rooms to the front and the Academic Wing overlooking the adjacent woodland.
All 31 Classrooms are fully computerized. A closed circuit television network allows central programming for the entire facility.
Sloped roofs, brick patterning, and a colonnade around a center courtyard contribute to the pleasant scale of this large elementary school.
