Breslin Architects was commissioned by Penn State University to design this Natatorium as an addition to the Capital Union Building at the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania campus. The existing building houses recreation and fitness areas as well as a gymnasium and locker rooms. The design allows existing locker rooms to serve both the existing functions as well as the new pool.
The Natatorium is a state-of-the-art aquatic center that provides opportunity for student competition or lap swimming and the pool depth has been designed to provide maximum space for recreational swimming.
The exterior of the Natatorium uses a palette of brick and concrete masonry to harmonize with the existing facility. Window walls provide abundant natural light and attractive vistas of the Penn State Campus.
